Books-Montclair Book Center, Glenridge Ave. takes only books they believe they can resell. 221 Glenridge Avenue, 973-783-3630, Mon.-Sat. 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Sun. noon-6:00 PM. Browse their inventory of new and used books at -College Women’s Club of Montclair, 26 Park St., Montclair, 973-783-7040, has lots of books available during their annual sale from March 22-31. They usually accept donations Wednesdays from 9:30-noon, but they won’t accept any more this year until early May. Proceeds go for scholarships for women undergraduates.
-Montclair Meeting at the corner of Park St. and Gordonhurst Ave. sells books, CDs, and videotapes on the first Saturday of May each year. Come! Bring donations in April on week days or after worship on Sundays. Left-overs go to other religions’ sales.

Bicycles

-Pedals for Progress ships used bikes to developping countries of the world where they provide essential transportation. Bloomfield Spring collection is in May/June (Brookdale Baptist Church) and the Montclair Fall collection is in late October (Rotary Club at the Walnut St train station). -Furniture is matched by
HomeCorp, 973-744-4141 between those who have things to give and those who need them. They do no pickup, but put the recipient in touch with the donor. Right now they are looking for a computer desk.
-The Safe House for battered women accepts women’s and children’s clothing, small household items, kitchen utensil, dishes, etc. at a small room just off the emergency entrance of Clara Maass Hospital. Sometimes it is too full to take more, so before you go there, check to see if there is space at 973-759-2378.
-Used cars are solicited in the
“Autos Wanted” list at the end of used car ads in the
Star Ledger. For example, in the 2/11/07 edition there were 8 such options including the Red Cross at 1-87-REDCROSS and Children’s Cancer at 1-800-380-4380 provide tax-deductions. Others pay for cars.
-Oil from your car if you change it yourself is accepted by two Montclair service stations with a $1 per gallon fee:

An old battery from your car must be accepted by whomever sells you a new one for appropriate recycling. If you replace it yourself, you get a coupon when you buy the new one to bring back the old one.

mailing places, in particular the one on Valley Road near CVS.
-Clothes hangers in good condition are welcomed by most
dry cleaning establishments.
-Computers, cell phones and most consumer electronic equipment are recycled twice a year.
